From February 20 to April 11, grade 6 and 7 students from Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools in Greater Sudbury, Sudbury East and Espanola will be taking part in improvisation workshops. Through to the support of CSC Nouvelon's Francophone Identity Building team, the schools will have the opportunity to welcome instructor Chloé Thériault and Rodney Meilleur, CSC Nouvelon's Identity Building facilitator.
Through this initiative, entitled "Enweille! On improvise!,” students will discover the world of improvisation by learning various strategies specific to the field, while building on their oral communication skills, collaboration and creativity. Most students will be taking part in their first improv competition during this activity. These workshops are made possible by funding from the Ontario Ministry of Education and a partnership with Créations In Vivo.
While reinforcing oral communication skills, this improv tour seeks to encourage Francophone pride among students and contribute to the cultural vitality of schools. By providing training for students and school staff, CSC Nouvelon hopes to develop a new generation of students who will partake in improvisation tournaments at regional and provincial levels. By targeting elementary school students, CSC Nouvelon intends to ensure the continuity of high school improvisation teams in the future.
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 5,900 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
