A team from École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie) will be heading to Louisville, Kentucky, from April 28 to 30 for the VEX Robotics IQ Challenge World Championship based on their outstanding performance at the provincial VEX Robotics IQ Challenge held in Brampton on March 2. The 400 best elementary school teams from 42 countries across the world will compete in the World Championship.
Team NDS Alfa, made up of Liam Spacek, Luke Dallaire, Cole Clément, Ella Dubreuil and Gabriella Gutierrez, and led by volunteer coach David Spacek, is currently ranked 7th in Ontario and 19th in the country. The team also won the STEM Research Project Award at the provincial competition which guaranteed them a spot at the world championship.
The VEX IQ Robotics Challenge tasks teams of students with designing and building a robot using their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The robot must then complete a variety of challenges that enable the panel of judges to evaluate its capabilities. In addition to applying STEM concepts, students also develop lifelong teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
