March 5, 2018
On Wednesday, March 7, many girls between the ages of 12 and 17 will gather in the Collège Notre-Dame (100 Lévis St., Sudbury) gymnasium at 9:30 a.m. for the launch of the 2018 FitSpirit Campaign. Nina Kucheran, current CND swimmer and forthcoming Florida State University varsity athlete, will be sharing her personal story with the girls. Several other presentations and activities will also take place during the launch, which is scheduled to end at 10:30 a.m. Members of the media are invited to attend.
FitSpirit’s goal is to develop partnerships with schools and communities that provide opportunities for girls in this age group to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle in an affirming environment. In fact, the launch looks to motivate participants to join FitSpirit’s flagship program, FitClub. This program, which begins at the end of March break, will see participants engage in 8 to 10 weeks of fitness training that will conclude in a 5- or 10-km run.
Since 2007, the FitSpirit teas has promoted the benefits of physical activity to some 110,000 adolescent girls. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario takes great pride in seeing students from four of its schools participate in this initiative that introduces girls to physical activity and helps them discover its long-term positive effects on health and well-being.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
