École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron) will be welcoming over 375 students from some 30 Ontario French-language secondary schools from March 3 to 6, as host of the Quand ça nous chante music festival ran by the by the Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM). Participants will take part in workshops, perform music on stage and enjoy several concerts offered by professional artists. The festival will take place at Collège Boréal with the exception of the March 5th dinner which will take place at ÉSC l’Horizon. Members of the media are invited to attend any of the festival’s key events listed below.

CSCNO students to take part in the 15th edition of the Great Robotics Challenge

On Wednesday, February 28, 122 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students, accompanied by 22 teachers, will meet at the Science North Cavern in Sudbury for the 15th edition of the Great Robotics Challenge (Le Grand Défi Robotique). This friendly contest for students representing 17 CSCNO elementary schools will see them strive to build the most efficient robot. This year, a video contest will also take place during this event. Members of the media are invited to attend the competition, scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Five French Language High Schools to square off in the Tournoi du Gros Cinq Sous

On Thursday, February 22, 12 teams representing Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford), École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury) and École secondaire catholique Thériault (Timmins) will square off in the Tournoi du Gros Cinq Sous (Big Nickel Tournament). This contest measuring students’ knowledge will take place in the École secondaire catholique Champlain gymnasium (61 Brookside Drive, Chelmsford). Similar to the former Reach for the Top competition, the Tournoi du Gros Cinq Sous is the only French-language competition of this type to take place in Sudbury. Members of the media are invited to view the competition.

ESC l’Horizon hosts the 15th Quand ça nous chante festival

École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron) will be welcoming over 375 students from some 30 Ontario French-language secondary schools from March 3 to 6, 2018, as host of the Quand ça nous chante music festival. Music groups from Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario’s ÉSC l’Horizon (Val Caron), ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord (Blind-River) and Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) schools will be amongst the 30 student music groups participating in the festival. This event allows students to develop their passion for music and share their talents, while also learning from professional musicians. The bulk of the festival’s activities will be taking place at the Collège Boréal campus.

École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) honours grandparents

Cercle de Vie cultural leader Isabelle Garceau will return to the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) to lead a very special workshop at École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) on January 17, from 9 a.m. to 12-noon.
Isabelle Garceau is a cultural leader who creates and leads a series of personal development workshops based on Aboriginal culture. Atikamekw and Innu Métis herself and, to a great extent, uprooted from her culture, Isabelle Garceau successfully recreated the fabric of her origins through research and participation in aboriginal gatherings and rituals.
