Four Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools recently received the Ontario EcoSchools certification for the 2018-2019 school year. With this designation, the EcoSchools Canada Program recognizes the work of schools in promoting environmental learning and climate action. École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) and École Saint-Joseph (Blind River) each obtained a silver level certification while a bronze level certification was awarded to École St-Charles Borromée (St-Charles) and École Ste-Marie (Azilda).
In these schools, student-run environment clubs carried out projects that had an ecological impact in various areas such as greening, reducing energy consumption, reducing waste and preserving the environment. Through their ongoing efforts, these schools promoted environmental leadership, reduced their ecological footprint and helped initiate an eco-responsible school community within their establishment.
“We take pride in our schools’ ability to foster environmental learning for students and to succeed in mobilizing their school community in taking concrete action. By strengthening our students’ environmental leadership, our schools are providing them with the tools to become eco-responsible citizens equipped to reduce their ecological footprint,” stated Ms. Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSC Nouvelon Director of Education.
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,700 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
