March 1, 2019
On Tuesday, March 5, more than 30 students from four Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) secondary schools are to compete in the “On IMPROvise” (We IMPROVise) tournament at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (1650 Valleyview Rd, Val Caron). This dynamic event will gather young improv aficionados from the host school, as well as from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) and École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest (Espanola). Media representatives are invited to attend what is certain to be a lively competition.
Singer-songwriter-composer and outstanding improv performer Stef Paquette visited the schools back in November 2018 to offer improv workshops and pique student interest in this unique form of expression. Students will again benefit from a Stef Paquette workshop from 9:25 to 10:10 a.m., just before the competition begins. Stef’s workshops are supported by the Ontario Arts Council. The improv matches themselves, which will also be refereed by Paquette, will be held from 10:10 to 11 a.m., 11:03 to 11:40 a.m. and 12:25 to 1:20 p.m.
This competition provides students with an opportunity to improve their communications skills while celebrating their Franco-Ontarian culture through improvisation.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
