On Wednesday, February 27, 140 students from several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) elementary schools will be at Sudbury’s Lexington Hotel at 50 Brady St. from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the 16th edition of the Great Robotics Challenge (Le Grand Défi Robotique). Thirty-one teams will set out to build the most efficient robot while seven teams will take part in the video reporting contest. Members of the media are invited to attend the competition.

Le Grand Défi Robotique requires each team to build a robot made from LEGO EV3 and NXT blocks that will see its quality tested during two different contests. These trials will measure the robot’s strength and precision as well as the success of its programming and level of control by its student masters. Because the robots will have to accomplish different tasks, student teams will be able to modify their machine’s construction and programming between the trials. Prizes will be awarded for efficiency, quality of school banners as well as their team cheer.

Le Grand Défi Robotique enables students from grades 4 through 8 to display their creativity, ingenuity and tenacity. The nature of the challenges in this friendly competition encourages teamwork and ingenuity while initiating them to the world of engineering and technology.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
