Monday, September 25, 2017, is provincial Franco-Ontarian Day. Hundreds of Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students along with staff and parents will observe this day with a multitude of activities in their schools and communities in celebration of the strength of their francophone community.

The following is a list of activities hosted by CSCNO schools on September 25. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Students from École Saint-Joseph and École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord in Blind-River will take part in a flag-raising ceremony at the Blind River Visitor Information Center at 9:40 a.m. This will be the first time the Franco-Ontarian flag is flown in the Blind-River community. This initiative was initiated by the Club Richelieu, but École Saint-Joseph students will be leading the ceremony. Blind River Mayor Sue Jensen will also be present for this historical event. 

École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest (Espanola) students will join École Saint-Joseph (Espanola) students for an animated march around the neighborhood followed by a flag-raising ceremony at École Saint-Joseph at 10 a.m.

Students from École St-Étienne (Dowling) will enjoy a concert by Rodney Meilleur around a camp fire organized by the Knights of Columbus at 1:20 p.m. A rally in the gymnasium will follow at 2:20 p.m.

At École St-Pierre (Sudbury), students will gather in the gymnasium at 2 p.m. for a rally which will be followed by an animated march in the neighbourhood to display their Franco-Ontarian pride.

Students from École St-Joseph (Dubreuilville) will enjoy a flag raising ceremony followed by an animated walk around town and a school rally.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence, providing a quality learning environment and an academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
