The result of a very unique music project will be unveiled this coming Friday, June 15, around 10 a.m. at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon, located at 1650 Valleyview in Val Caron. Over the course of the last two school years, students from various Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools had the opportunity to work with Stef Paquette, a well-known Franco-Ontarian artist, and compose an original, unique and inspiring song.
This particular project began last year as part of the Artists in Residence Program, which was made available to students through the support of the Ontario Arts Council. Mentored by Stef Paquette, grade 5 École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse) students composed a song entitled “Tout l’monde est pareil” (We are all the same).
This year, the project continued on at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon, where the music class composed both melody and accompaniment. The song was then recorded by music group Fjord, made up of ÉSC l’Horizon students, with assistance of the École Ste-Thérèse choir. To wrap things up, ÉSC l’Horizon students prepared a video to accompany the song, again with guidance from Stef Paquette. The result of the students’ efforts will be unveiled around 10 a.m. in the ÉSC l’Horizon gymnasium, at the conclusion of a musical presentation by Stef Paquette, which is part of the school’s Festival des Aigles.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
