On February 28, Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur received the prestigious Dr. Bette M. Stephenson Recognition of Achievement. This distinction was presented to five francophone schools in Ontario that were successful in helping students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) reach provincial literacy norms. Several representatives from École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur were on hand to accept the award during the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) Forum in Toronto.
The Dr. Bette M. Stephenson Recognition of Achievement provincial award, presented by the EQAO since 2009, recognizes the dedication to student success shown by school staff members, and their use of data to enhance and support the progress of their students. The efficient use of EQAO resources can enable schools to better assess improvement plans, and the process also lets students gain access to their school’s Student Success Support Centre. Student with an Individual Education Plan also benefit from the school’s Support Centre,
“The commitment to student success made by the entire staff at Sacré-Cœur has been outstanding,” stated Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education at the CSCNO. “This example of academic success is the result of a real team effort that is dedicated to supporting each student’s individual progression in linguistic abilities acquisition and skills development.”
“We strongly believe that all students can succeed, and we are ready to do what is required to encourage them and support their academic growth. The school staff works as a team, incorporating cutting-edge learning techniques in our efforts to provide students with individualized learning plans and identify helpful learning strategies,” added the Principal of École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur, Paul Henry.
