Cercle de Vie cultural leader Isabelle Garceau will return to the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) to lead a very special workshop at École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) on January 17, from 9 a.m. to 12-noon.

Isabelle Garceau is a cultural leader who creates and leads a series of personal development workshops based on Aboriginal culture. Atikamekw and Innu Métis herself and, to a great extent, uprooted from her culture, Isabelle Garceau successfully recreated the fabric of her origins through research and participation in aboriginal gatherings and rituals.

Guided by Mrs. Marceau, grade 6 students and their grand-parents will weave a dream catcher during the workshop. Dream-catcher weaving is a tradition that stems from the Aboriginal culture. Students will have the opportunity to weave in the dreams they hold for themselves, while their grandparents will weave in the dreams they have for their grandchildren.

Recognizing the importance of elders is extremely important in Aboriginal culture. In hosting this event, École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) promotes the important role that grandparents play in the lives of its students.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
