École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) school guidance counsellor Serge Plante was presented with the Russ Seltzer Award at the annual Ontario School Counsellors’ Association (OSCA) conference held in Toronto, from November 5 to 7, 2017.
The OSCA is a not-for-profit organization that provides support to guidance counsellors across the province. The Russ Seltzer Award is bestowed on an OSCA member who has greatly contributed to the professional development and training of other guidance counsellors.
Serge Plante has been a teacher for over 30 years, and a guidance counsellor at ÉSC Champlain since 2005. He has made significant contributions to the professional development of guidance counsellors. As a member of the OSCA’s executive committee from 2010 to 2014, Serge helped plan various professional development activities such as the annual OSCA conference. Mr. Plante also penned the “Guidance and Career Education, part 2” course for the Centre for Academic Development at Laurentian University. He also leveraged his experience as a guidance counsellor to develop and teach a course on current requirements in his field. He plans to continue teaching this course after he retires.
“We are very fortunate to have Serge Plante as a guidance counsellor at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario,” stated the CSCNO Director of Education, Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau. “Not only do ESC Champlain students benefit from his expertise, his commitment to professional development and training is an asset for all CSCNO guidance counsellors and teaching staff.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
