As part of their 20th anniversary celebration, Ontario’s eight French-language Catholic school boards, with the support of the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (AFOCSC), launched a provincial recognition tour to pay tribute to community leaders who, through their dedication to quality education, help the French-language Catholic school boards offer the best French-language education in Ontario. The tour, which is making its way across the province during the month of October, stopped at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) from October 11 to 13 for three award ceremonies.
The CSCNO honourees were as follows:
Staff members that work in the development and hearing and visually impaired classes at École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron) are recognized for their commitment to the education and integration of high need students at their school. Their dedication to students and families is remarkable.
Mélanie-Rose Frappier, École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury) graduate, for her contributions to indigenous education and the Métis community. Mélanie-Rose was the only student representative on the indigenous educational advisory committee and played an important role in the inception of the first CSCNO indigenous education course.
École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault-Ste-Marie) principal France McLeod, for her commitment to the francophone community, her extraordinary work with special needs students and her contributions to student recruitment and retention at her school. She also played a leading role in the integration of North, a service dog who offers support to a student.
“We are truly blessed to have, within our school board, community leaders that are devoted to the betterment of education. It is thanks to people like these that French language Catholic schools have reached a place of honour in the Ontario school system,” stated Mr. André Bidal, CSCNO President. “We have the great privilege of working with a multitude of passionate people and I am very happy that this recognition tour allowed us to recognize a few of these wonderful people who make a real difference in our schools and in the lives of our students.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
