On September 28, over 65 grade 7 and 8 students from ten Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools took part in the 9th annual CSCNO golf tournament held at the Twin Stacks Golf Club in Coniston. This competition enabled talented golfers from St-Denis (Sudbury), St-Pierre (Sudbury), Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), St-Augustin (Garson), Jean-Paul II (Val Caron), Ste-Marie (Azilda), Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford), St-Paul (Lively), St-Antoine (Noëlville) and Saint-Joseph (Espanola) schools to benefit from a friendly competitive encounter with fellow students from neighbouring French Catholic schools.
The team from École St-Denis (Sudbury) claimed first place with an average score of 38.5. They were followed by École Ste-Marie (Azilda) in second place with an average score of 45 and École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury) in third place with an average score of 45.5.
The members of the three winning teams were:
École St-Denis (Sudbury): Robert de la Riva, Pierson Sobush, Ethan Gosseling and Anthony Paul
École Ste-Marie (Azilda): Zack Garbutt, Carson Robert, Ryan Clark and Martin Girouard.
École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury): Michelle Scratch, Abigail Dumontelle, Sébastien Smith and Christian Munch
Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education at the CSCNO, strongly believes in the merit of these competitions. “Our elementary schools’ sports and intramural leagues enable our students to strengthen their athletic and social skills in a French Catholic environment.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence, providing a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
