The musical and artistic talents of École secondaire catholique l’Horizon and Collège Notre-Dame students will be on display on Saturday, May 27, during the upcoming La Brunante. Among the three finalists to perform at the concert for future Franco-Ontarian music stars will be the band 5 à 7 that showcases the musical talents of students from École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron) and Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury). The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Collège Boréal auditorium.
The 5 à 7 band consists of four members of the ÉSC l’Horizon music committee and a student from Collège Notre-Dame. In preparing for La Brunante, the young musicians composed their own original songs. The band members are as follows: Meagan Bigras, grade 10, lead singer; Zacharie Beaulieu, grade 12, bass; Michel Roux, grade 11, guitar and band manager; Alex Tremblay, grade 11, guitar, all from ÉSC l’Horizon; and Nikola Goulet, grade 11 at Collège Notre-Dame, drums.
Earlier this year, band members took part in both a song-writing workshop with the artist Yao and a music workshop with Chuck Labelle. Both sessions helped students to fine-tune their skills and perform at a higher level. The Horizon students were able to join the school’s music committee which offered them the opportunity to take part in many concerts and festivals during their high school studies.
All of these students hail from the Valley East community and are passionate about their music and always open to experimenting with various styles. They want to play quality Francophone music, enjoy themselves and promote their French culture.
“We take great pride in seeing our students becoming part of the emerging Franco-Ontarian musical scene. By taking part in La Brunante, these young Horizon and Collège Notre-Dame musicians display their desire to develop their Francophone identity and to contribute to the growth of a thriving Franco-Ontarian culture,” explained CSCNO Director of Education Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau.
