The high quality of their science projects has enabled three Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students to qualify for the 2017 Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held in Regina on May 14-20. These students are among some 25,000 emerging Canadian scientists from grades 7 through 12 to participate in more than 100 regional science fairs throughout the country, where they present their research and their accomplishments and compete to represent their region in the Canada-Wide Science Fair.

Two students from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) and a third from École St-Paul (Lively) are among the Greater Sudbury young scientists to qualify for the Canada-Wide Science Fair. 

Luc Couture, a grade 10 student at Collège Notre-Dame, will be competing for the second time at Canada-Wide Science Fair. This year, his project is entitled “The Impact of Optical Accessories on the Performance of Solar Panels” (Les effets des accessoires optiques sur la performance d’un panneau solaire).

Joseph Trottier, a grade 10 student at Collège Notre-Dame, will also be going to Regina. He was honoured for the quality of his project entitled “Knowing Your Weight Is Not Enough” (Connaître son poids de suffit pas).

Rochelle Larivière, a grade 7 student at École St-Paul, was also selected to represent the region of Sudbury at the Canada-Wide Science Fair. She was selected in light of the quality of her project entitled “Lead in the Venison” (Du plomb dans la venaison).

“The participation of our students in the Canada-Wide Science Fair reflects the quality of the educational program provided to our students as well as the high level of excellence of our teachers in the fields of science and technology,” stated Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO Director of Education. “We are proud of their accomplishments and are convinced that they will represent us with honour at the national level.”

“CSCNO students have a truly well-earned reputation for academic excellence. Our junior scientists will now have an opportunity to shine at the national level and will take advantage of this unique, high-level science competition opportunity to reach new horizons,” explained CSCNO President André Bidal.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic educational program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with more than 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
