École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury) grade 11 student Maxim Lefrançois was recently recognized by the Desjardins Movement for his strong leadership abilities. He was chosen to be part of a select group of 100 young people aged 14 to 17 under the movement’s “100 for 100” (100 pour cent) initiative that rewards leadership, academic success and community commitment.
For many years, Maxim Lefrançois’ volunteerism has helped the St-Charles Borromée Parish and other organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, his neighborhood Community Action Networks, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Elgin Street Mission. In addition, since the age of 12 he has been responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Lebel Park skating rink, all on his own.
The Young Leader for Tomorrow distinction awarded to Maxim is a great personal honour. His achievements and community and sports efforts are clear evidence of his leadership abilities and great potential, which led the Desjardins Movement to offer him a place in its mentorship program that will see him shadow and learn from a Desjardins executive.
In all, 100 young Desjardins executives will each mentor a recipient of the Young Leader of Tomorrow distinction for one year. Maxim has been matched with Mrs. Marie-Pier Lemieux, Director of Market Development at the Caisse Desjardins du Val Saint-François in Québec.
“I feel lucky to have been matched with Maxim Lefrançois as he is a young man whose level of involvement and commitment to his community is very high indeed. The Desjardins program will allow us to share experience, knowledge and ideas. It is a great pleasure for me to encourage Maxim and help him develop his leadership capacity,” explained Ms. Lemieux.
“Maxim stands out among his peers through his commitment to our school and his contributions to school life. In addition to representing École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario sectoral dialogue table, he contributes to the success of the Télé-Griffons student radio station, the student credit union and the aboriginal and pastoral clubs,” stated École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur principal Paul Henry. “Maxim also continues to provide support to his former elementary school (École St-Dominique) during the school’s Olympics and barbecue day.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
